Power is a theme used by Shakespeare throughout the play Macbeth. Power is used by certain characters in the play to influence others. One such character is Lady Macbeth. At the beginning of the play, she is shown to be a strong-willed character. She takes on the role of a dominant female.

Ambition leads the character to many directions, for example, death. To express ambition, Shakespeare uses irony throughout the play. Due too the human nature of ambition it affected some of the characters such as Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and Macduff by the use of literary devices and language.
